About my work
photo: Skye Varga
My work navigates the balance between struggle and surrender in this world. I am deeply inspired by work that transports viewers into the feeling of “humanness.” Through movement, I aim to evoke an awareness of our fading presence on this earth, allowing viewers to put thier being into perspective.
Community is at the center of my work. There is a richness in listening to and embracing the people we share spaces with, and I value shared artistry. I seek to both create thriving collaborative settings and be a part of ones created by others.
My experience in photography, film, and media, asks me to continuously challenge myself to explore how visuals express artistic thoughts, which I translate into movement as both a dancer and choreographer. This interdisciplinary approach creates the space for a full-bodied, physical movement experience that connects the energy of dancers in the space.
Drawing from a diverse background in modern dance, ballet, jazz, and improvisation, I honor the various movement languages that shape my work and believe that acknowledging our influences is an important part of creating. As I expand my movement knowledge over the course of my career, I aspire to contribute to and continue to learn from the communities that have helped me explore and confront my own “humanness.”
